What is Universal Purchase?

Apple added macOS to the available platforms that support universal app purchases in March 2020. Yomu makes use of this option and offers the pro edition as a single purchase across all iOS, iPadOS and macOS devices.

That means, if you buy Yomu Pro on one of your devices, you can unlock it for free on any other device where you’re logged in to the same Apple ID.

Why do I need to get the universal Mac version?

Sadly, it is not possible to merge existing App Store records together. To offer universal purchase, a new Mac version had to be created which includes the iOS and iPadOS apps.

The macOS version that was released in 2019 is a separate app with an individual App Store record. This legacy version will no longer receive any updates and won’t be supported further. It is recommended to replace it with the version from the universal purchase as soon as possible.

How do I migrate to the universal Mac version?

You will need to uninstall the legacy Mac app and install the new compatible one.

  1. Backup your library
  2. Uninstall the legacy Mac app (v2.7.1)
  3. Install the compatible Mac app (+ v2.8.0)

It is unfortunately not possible to directly migrate your library. You might want to export your books and annotations first, disable the cloud library and delete them from the legacy app.

Make sure that you disable iCloud synchronization before deleting any books, otherwise they will be removed from all your devices. On Mac, you can select multiple books to delete with command or shift click.

After installing the new compatible app, you can enable iCloud synchronization again. Since your data is stored in Apple’s iCloud, your Mac should sync up without any lost information.

How do I enable Yomu Pro for the universal Mac version?

If you purchased Yomu Pro for iOS, you should be able to unlock the Mac version for free.

With Universal Purchase, you will need to be signed in on your devices with the same Apple ID. Open the sidebar in Yomu and navigate to purchase. Tap on restore to enable the pro version on your Mac.

In case you only bought the legacy Mac app but not the iOS version, it is not possible to migrate your purchase. Please contact support with your purchase receipt to get a new licence for the compatible app.
